Chip the icicles off your trusty steed and hit the course in Montpelier’s Hubbard Park for a race that will challenge the heartiest of us, but is fun enough for a novice winter rider.

Registration: $20 for pre-registration on Bikereg.com; $25 day of. Registration includes the race, a raffle ticket, and post-race chow and all proceeds benefit the Moxie Sparks Scholarship Program!  Registration day-of race opens at 9:30am at the New Shelter in Hubbard Park or register on BikeReg.com.

Time: All races start at 11:00am for all classes. Registration will open at 9:30am the day of each event.

Course: A lung-burning loop begins at the New Shelter, heading around the Tower and back with a 1, 2 or 3 lap option (or more by popular request!) on your choice of bicycle.  Exact distance will be determined by course conditions.  Please note, these are SPECIAL events, mountain biking is not allowed on the Hubbard Park trails at any other time.

About Mountain Moxies and the Moxie Sparks Program:

Mountain Moxie is Vermont’s women’s mountain bike race team with a mission to:
* Learn about ourselves and our environment through the pursuit of sport;
* Find camaraderie around and direct support for riding, training and racing;
* Support women’s access to and participation in the sport of mountain biking; and,
* Hone technical skills, race well and contribute to the greater mountain bike community.
In the team’s second year, a collaboration between Mountain Moxie, Little Bellas and the Stride Foundation led to the creation of Moxie Sparks, a mountain bike mentoring program for girls. Two girls experienced a summer of mountain biking in 2012 – from gearing up to technical skill building and personal empowerment, as well as whetting their whistle for the race start (and finish) line.
Sugarbush, Onion River Sports/Muscles Not Motors, Skirack and the Vermont Natural Resources Council sponsored Moxie Sparks, a package which included podium incentives for Mountain Moxie members. The 23-member team competed in over 30 races and rides across New England (and even as far as Idaho, North Carolina and South Africa), accomplishing 26 podium finishes, which raised $1,150 for Moxie Sparks.
