The Lunar Quarry 12

This weekend eight members of the MTBVT crew will take on the Lunar Quarry, a twelve-hour night-time relay race in Rutland’s Pine Hill Trail network.

Do you think they should be concerned that for most of them, it is their first night-time ride? Or that their lights have yet to arrive in the mail? Or that this is the first time they have ever competed in an XC race? Naaaaaaaaw! When the moon comes out the MTBVT/iRide crew is at its finest. Beware the beer-wolves. We’re comin’ to gitcha!

If you are at the race drop by the tent and stay high, errr, say hi. Root on iRide and MTBVT but remember, don’t feed them after midnight!

About the event:

On the night of Saturday, October 1st 2011, The Lunar Quarry 12 commences as a twelve-hour night mountain bike relay set in Pine Hill Park in an old rock quarry from the 1920’s. The quarry forms a natural amphitheater and is the setting for a limited 60 team tent sites. There will be a bonfire. There will be several bands playing atop the post-apocalyptic cement rock crusher building. There will be movies projected up against the quarry wall. An outdoor wood pizza oven will provide fresh pizzas through the night. There will be paintball guns -  participants riding in from hour long laps across the park will fire 5 rounds at targets before passing off to a team mate in biathlon fashion for a total team score across the event. Food, fire, music, fun, refreshments, and a blueberry pancake breakfast in the morning will conclude the event as awards are presented.

…One excellent evening….

…and a great T-shirt if you like the poster…

Funds will benefit the American Cancer Society, the Vermont Mountain Bike Association, and Pine Hill Park.
