Viking Nordic Center in Southern Vermont is opening up to Fat-biking effective immediately!
Viking Nordic Center has 39km of groomed trails and a 16-20″ base of snow. The center will be open through the last Sunday in March 9-5 everyday but Wednesday.
The IMBA 2″ divot rule will be in effect so the best biking will be early in the morning while the track is still firm from the colder temps overnight. Get out there before the trails start to warm up. All bikers will be required to buy a trail pass ($20 adult with discounts for juniors, seniors, kids).
Viking Nordic Center is located in Southern Vermont, 20 minutes from both Okemo and Stratton alpine ski areas, roughly 90 minutes from Albany, 2 hrs from Hartford, and 3 from Boston at the intersection of Vermont 100 and 11.
Viking Nordic Center is know for the quality of it’s trails – they are not the wide, flat boulevards that some Nordic ski areas have developed to cater to skate skiers – Viking’s trails have interesting twists, turns, dips and rises. Trails are groomed 14′ wide with a single classic track on one side of the trail. Trails are virtually all in the woods and travel past the West River, around an active beaver pond and to some great views. There are several picnic tables out on the trails for those who want to take a break.
Additionally, for the rest of the month there is a special on their Guest House which sleeps 10 and includes trail passes, $300/weekend night, $250/weekday night, 2 night minimum.
Make a trip to the Center and let MTBVT know what you think.
Looks like I’ll need to work this in for my next trip down south.
Sweet!
I took Rob and Malcolm out on the fatties for the trial run and now we got another place to rip. Their snowshoe trails are a blast!
