Von Trapp Brewing Jack Daniel’s Barrel Aged Trösten
After a whirlwind of a weekend and a trying Monday, I couldn’t wait to delve into a tasty brew. I headed over to Sushi Yoshi Killington and was not disappointed by this well-balanced, smoky lager. At 19 IBU and only 6% alcohol, the Trosten is a beer one can have a handful of.
In expanding their delicious selection of German style lagers and experimenting a bit too, Trapp has created a winner with this cozy beer. “Trösten” translates into “comfort”, and it’s a name that’s right on the money. The aroma is more boozy than the flavor, but the whiskey leaves a pleasant aftertaste, melding with the smokiness to form a delectable drinking experience. I love a good barrel-aged brew, but for those that aren’t too fond of the overly-boozy, this beer is a great middle ground. It’s a perfect winter warmer in these Vermont nights between sleet and snow. I’d venture to say that it’s my favorite Trapp beer so far. Prost!
